A.B.C.D.E Homeschooling Priority
Mission: Build a success plan for tackling your homeschooling to-do list.
①Introduction
Any homeschooling family knows that the list of tasks never ends. Often, people believe that homeschooling parents must be organized, methodical, and driven. I can tell you that this is a misconception because my mom is the absolute complete opposite of this personality type. She successfully homeschooled three children, all while working a full-time job. Anyone who knows my mom will say she’s one of the most amazing human beings, but she isn’t structured or detailed. Some may even call her scatterbrained. (I might have her beat on the scatterbrain part 😂)
Then how can someone succeed as a homeschool parent if they run in circles? Mr. Brian Tracy created the ABCDE Method, which can help you today.
Notes aren’t saved; you can copy them into your planner.
A• A - (Must Do’s)
- Tasks that move you and your family toward your homeschooling goals.
- Tasks that need to meet a deadline or be completed urgently.
Example - You live in Florida, and you are approaching the anniversary date of your letter of intent to homeschool. In Florida, you must schedule your annual evaluation no later than that date. This would be a task that goes into the A category.
Tip: Tackle A1 before anything else.
B• B - (Should Do’s)
- Tasks that are still important to your homeschooling success.
- Tasks that are not as critical as your “A” tasks.
Example - You must return a non-urgent call to your Nxt Era Academic success specialist.
C• C - (Nice To Do’s)
- Tasks where no consequences will appear if not completed.
- Tasks that don’t move you closer to your homeschooling goal.
- Tasks that you and your family find enjoyable and beneficial, just not essential.
Example - You need to cancel a park playdate for your youngest child with a local homeschool family in your neighborhood.
D• D - (Delegate)
- Tasks that you need to delegate to other individuals to free up time in your day.
- Tasks that you need to delegate so you can focus on your “A” tasks.
Example - You need to ask your child to clean and organize the school area at the end of the day.
E• E - (Eliminate)
- Tasks that are unnecessary and do not contribute at all to your homeschooling success.
- Tasks that serve as a distraction.
Example - You scroll on Instagram without any specific reason.
②Implementation
As a homeschooling family, it is very common to feel stressed. Maybe you feel overwhelmed, too. You need to do more than you can imagine. However, you now know a system to help. It will help you accomplish goals. It will also help you move closer to homeschooling success with your family!
•• List task
- Write down everything you need to accomplish.
- Write them on a piece of paper or list them in your notes or on a computer.
- Do not allow the total amount to stress you out.
•• Assigned categories
- Put either A, B, C, D, or E next to every task.
- Base them on the importance and the consequences to your homeschooling success.
•• Prioritize within categories
- For tasks labeled “A,” assign numbers to indicate their order of importance (A1, A2, A3, A4, etc.).
- Then do the same for “B” & “C.”
•• Take Action
- Start working on your list.
- Begin to take action.
③Working it into your routine:
To make this list effective, I suggest you work it into your routine. Review your list every single morning before you start your plans for the day. Figure out how to accomplish your tasks. Also, at the end of each day, go over the list and cross off what tasks you accomplished. Then begin by starting tomorrow’s plan.
④Community task:
Reach out to three people in the Nxt Era community and discuss how they implemented the ABCDE method into their homeschooling adventures. Find out how they achieved a successful implementation.
