How to Continue a Lifelong Education Journey as a Homeschool Family
Introduction
Meet Greg Denning
Recently, Nxt Era interviewed Greg Denning, who is a husband and father. He has been married to his wife for 25 years and has seven children. His children span ages 23β9 years. He is a worldschooling expert, parent coach, and homeschool father. He and his family have traveled all over the world. They wanted to turn the globe into their classroom, so they did.
Mr. Denning also has experience in teaching and has worked with youth for over 30 years. During this experience, he saw what the system couldn't provide to kids. Now, he coaches teens and has a group that meets regularly to discuss life.
Mr. Denning firmly believes in facilitating a child's interest. It's important to customize the learning to the child because this helps them learn about themselves. In addition, he also believes in a three-tiered system for achieving a good life.
He went on to explain that we need a proper amount of sleep each night to help our bodies. We all need to eat good food, such as clean protein and fruits. Mr. Denning recommends grass-fed or organic meat, free-range eggs, cheeses, creams, fats, and cottage cheese. He also recommends fruits and vegetables. His family follows the rule "it has to be nutritious and delicious." In addition, he and his family stay physically active by working out wherever they travel. Lastly, they have detoxified their environment to follow the third rule.
Mr. Denning believes that every family should have a family dream. They need to develop it together. Through this process, families can start their own businesses and make money online. There are endless ways to earn money online. Mr. Denning encouraged families to ask, "Who do I want to serve and how can I serve them the best?" This can apply to parents who want to travel the world with their children and earn money online. This can also apply to homeschoolers who want to start their own businesses.
Next, he explained that families should not bring the public school system home. Instead, support and encourage your kids to try new ideas so they can learn. This gives them a sense of self-discovery along the way. Fathers can lead from the front, so the children can watch them pursue their own dreams.
With great passion, Mr. Denning said that our education determines our quality of life, which means we never truly graduate from education. Thus, he supplied several tips on how to continue a lifelong education journey as a homeschool family.
-
READ!!!Read aloud together as a family! Tell stories to your kids from your imagination or from the stories that you have read. For example, Mr. Denning read Les MisΓ©rables on his own and then verbally told the stories from it to his children.
-
Travel with your family.Travel with your family and experience life. Communicate with different people, try new food, and make memories all around the world. This is a learning curriculum in itself!
-
Find a mentor or coach.Find a mentor or coach who can help you lead a successful life. Work on coping skills and life goals together. This suggestion can apply to both homeschool parents and homeschoolers.
-
Learn a new language or learn how to play an instrument.Learning new things can strengthen your mind. Mr. Denning highly recommends learning a new language or instrument. For language learning, Mr. Denning highly recommends:
- Using an app to get started.
- Memorizing the 1,000 most common words in the language.
- Starting to watch movies and listening to books in the new language.
- Hiring an online tutor.
- Total immersion as the best way to learn.
-
Take care of your body.Remember to get good sleep, eat good food, and create a good environment.
- Exercise often. Mr. Denning loves martial arts. You can also go for a walk outside, try playing tennis, or do a good cardio workout.
- Work on your mental state. Put down the victim mentality. Work on yourself. Reframe negative situations or ideas in your mind into positive thoughts.
-
Prioritize your marriage.Take time out to spend one-on-one time with your spouse. Go on dates. If possible, go on a trip as a couple. Make sure to take care of yourselves as a couple. This will benefit your whole family.
-
What is your family's goal?Sit down and discuss your family's goal. What do you want to achieve? How do you want to live? How do you want to grow as a family? Reflect on these questions as a family unit.
Mr. Denning's words can inspire homeschool families. These tips can help you grow and blossom as a family. They can also encourage you to travel as a family. From reading aloud with your homeschoolers to working on yourself, Mr. Denning's words invite homeschooling families to focus on lifelong growth and knowledge.
Like Mr. Denning's suggestions, homeschooling propels families to grow and cultivate good habits.
