6 Steps to Prepare Your Homeschooler for Adulthood
Nov 26, 2025Have you ever wondered what to do when your child enters high school? How can they keep up with our fast-paced, harsh world? Good question! Thankfully, we interviewed Jonathan Brush, who provided several answers to this question.
To summarize his key thoughts, he said:
- Homeschoolers can communicate.
- Homeschoolers can learn.
- Homeschoolers can take initiative.
- Homeschoolers can fail.
- Homeschoolers can become extraordinary in the ordinary.
- Homeschoolers need to learn life skills.
A Chaotic World
During these times, it can feel daunting to raise children, especially in a world that continues to explode with disaster after disaster. If you have young adults in your home, you may be frightened to send them off into the world.
You might worry that college could indoctrinate them, and the world seems more dangerous than ever. You might pray and seemingly place your head in your hands at the thought of your child living in a world where adulthood appears to be more and more brutal.
The Game Plan
What can you do? In our interview, Jonathan Brush shared great information on how to prepare young adults for the world.
He explained that homeschoolers can communicate well because they do not have to withstand constant peer pressure. Typically, they don’t feel afraid when talking to people. Also, homeschoolers have contact with cross-generational environments. This strengthens their communication skills.
Next, homeschoolers can learn well because they learn a variety of topics, or sometimes they have to teach themselves. Because of self-learning, homeschoolers know how to take initiative.
Now, parents need to teach the last three points. They need to teach their homeschoolers that they can learn from failure and move forward. Failure comes with life. Therefore, we have to fail to learn.
Next, often young adults dream of being rich, famous, or powerful. However, Brush encourages homeschoolers to see themselves as extraordinary in the ordinary, mundane parts of life. Finally, homeschoolers need to learn life skills. They can learn these life skills through homeschooling as well as applying Brush’s tips.
Conclusion/Moving Forward
Now, the last step… Are you hesitant to send your child away to a secular college? Well, Unbound can help with this fear. Instead of sending your child to a secular college, you can send your young adult to Unbound, where they will learn life skills.
Unbound prepares students to thrive in the real world and allows them to bring ideas into real life. Jonathan Brush explained that whether a student becomes rich or famous, Unbound teaches them to live an exciting, meaningful, important, and impactful life.
