6 Steps to Overcoming Homeschooling Doubts

Dec 31, 2025

Do you feel overwhelmed as a homeschool parent? Maybe you want to give up. Maybe you don’t know where to start as a new homeschooling parent. Maybe the voices in your head tell you that you’re not capable. Well, you’re not alone. I’ve seen a lot of moms sharing these exact struggles in homeschool groups on Facebook. What can you do to change this mindset?

  • Breathe.
  • Get outside.
  • Research.
  • Read homeschooling books.
  • Remember your “why.”
  • Enjoy the moment.

A Mindset Shift

When you feel overwhelm creep in, take a deep breath. Stop what you’re doing and step back. Take a moment to pause. Breathe in and out slowly. Now, go outside.

Breathe in the fresh air and take note of your surroundings. Shift your focus to the landscape and slowly let go of your thoughts. Stand in the moment and acknowledge it. In this moment, tell yourself, “I am capable. I can do this. I am strong enough to homeschool my kids. I am smart enough to homeschool my kids.” At Nxt Era, we believe you are. You are not alone.

After you have paused and worked on your mindset, start to research homeschooling. Whether you’re a seasoned homeschool parent or new to it, research. Show yourself why you want to homeschool. Show yourself why you want to continue on this journey. Read articles, listen to podcasts, or watch videos on homeschooling.

Next, for new and old homeschooling parents, read homeschooling books. Inspire yourself with what you read. Let it motivate and strengthen you. Study the different styles of homeschooling and learning styles. Let the information seep into your mind and enliven your homeschooling drive.

Now, remember your why. Why do you want to homeschool? Why did you start? Why are you considering homeschooling in comparison to public schooling? Ask yourself these questions and dwell on them. If you want, write your answers out in a journal and refer back to them as needed.

Finally, try to enjoy each homeschooling moment as it comes. Sure, I know this is hard, and I’m not a master at enjoying the moment. We can all try to do better at living in each moment and practicing gratitude for it. Pay attention to the homeschooling memories as they come and as your kids thrive. Living in the moment and paying attention to progress (no matter how small) will help you combat these doubts.

Conclusion

It won’t be easy to apply these habits, but try your best and try to lovingly work on your mindset. Most importantly, look at your children and remind yourself. You’re doing this for them even though it’s hard. Homeschooling changed my life for the better in so many ways, and I’m so grateful that my parents sacrificed for me. Eventually, you will see the fruits of your labor, and your hard work will pay off. Remember your why and press on!
