5 Tips to Unlearn Labels, Find Your Homeschooling Style, and More
Jun 12, 2026This week, I talked with Blanca, a homeschool mom, military veteran, and homeschool influencer. She shares homeschooling content on Instagram. We talked about her homeschooling experience, homeschooling advice, and faith. Her words show that she truly wants to support homeschooling families, and her helpful ideas are inspirational.
- Deschool your mind and help your children unlearn labels.
- Find out what style fits your family.
- Get involved in your community.
- Let your boys run free.
- Focus on strengths and work on financial stewardship.
Unlearning Time!
First, begin by deschooling your mind and helping your child unlearn public school labels. Try to unlearn how you think a school day should look. When working in the public school system, Blanca learned that labels can impact children. For instance, IEPs or behavior issues can cause a child to become labeled, which can follow them for the rest of their lives. Once you start homeschooling, help your child to unlearn these labels.
Next, figure out what style fits your family. At first, they used an eclectic, unit study style. Now, Blanca and her family have transitioned to the Classical Conversations curriculum. Therefore, give yourself time and the ability to figure out what works for your family unit. Try new curricula as needed.
Continuing, Blanca suggested finding your community. Join a co-op, library group, or art class. Find fun ways to meet new people. Don’t be afraid to try different groups either, so you can find your fit.
Also, let your boys run free. Blanca explained that the public school system isn’t made for active boys. If you haven’t started homeschooling, consider how the system has treated your son. Has it been a healthy fit for him? If you have started homeschooling, let your son play outside and be active!
Finally, focus on your child’s strengths. Encourage them in their strengths and abilities. Invest in resources that can help them grow in their strengths. Also, teach financial stewardship at home. Talk about your family’s budget and show them how you sacrifice/say “no” to certain expenses. Have open communication about money on an age-appropriate level. Make sure these conversations won’t alarm your homeschooler.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Blanca supplied great tips for homeschooling families. Her words can inspire parents to take action and reflect deeply. How can you implement these ideas into your homeschooling journey? Do you need to consider homeschooling in general? Sit with these questions and take them step by step. Remember, there’s always room for flexibility and grace on your homeschooling journey!
