5 Tips to Learn Financial Literacy as a Homeschool Family

Jan 21, 2026

Have you ever wondered how to teach financial literacy to your homeschooler? Well, I recently spoke with Samantha Bird, who is a financial literacy influencer on Instagram @samanthabirdshiloh, and has over 100,000 followers. She shared several tips on how to teach financial literacy to your kiddos.

  • Use the Camp Cash program.
  • Use physical money.
  • Learn how to manage emotions.
  • Work on financial literacy as a family.
  • Practice money dates.

Manage Money Together

First of all, use the Camp Cash website program to make your life easier. Utilize Ms. Bird’s effective program to help your homeschooler learn through an interactive game, where they can gain badges as prizes. The program uses checkpoints to help your student learn. In addition, you can learn alongside your child. Ms. Bird encourages this process.

Next, use physical money (cash) to help your homeschooler learn through the physical process of holding money. This helps them associate kinesthetic learning with financial literacy. Thus, Ms. Bird explained that this engages the learner and helps them remember the steps of the financial literacy experience.

Continuing, teach your homeschooler how to manage their emotions around money. Start this when they’re young because this will help them later in life. Show them that using money can be stress-free if they handle it wisely and start young. Show them that money doesn’t have to be frightening. Using a program like Camp Cash can certainly help with these struggles. Ms. Bird encourages others to learn from financial mistakes and move forward. She recommends letting go of shame surrounding money mistakes.

Work on financial literacy as a family. Build a budget with your child and do it together. Show them how to work on their budget and manage money well. Ms. Bird even involves her children in the holiday shopping process. They have a limit to their spending, and Ms. Bird shows her kids how to do this while also explaining how she works on a holiday budget herself.

Finally, practice weekly money dates. Sit down together and go over your child’s budget. Give them an allowance and manage it together. This helps them learn the physical act of taking care of a budget and managing money.

Conclusion

In conclusion, take these steps to help you and your homeschooler learn about financial literacy. Use the Camp Cash program to make your life easier. Practice managing money and budgeting with your kiddos. Take time to work on financial literacy together. This will also help your child learn how to manage their money and emotions in one setting.
