5 Steps to Become A Grounded Homeschooling Dad

May 27, 2026

Recently, I sat down with Jesse Carstairs, a follower of Christ, men’s coach, husband, and homeschooling dad. He and his wife decided to homeschool because they didn’t want to outsource parenting. He shares men’s coaching content on Instagram and inspires men to become the biblical leaders of the home. He grew very quickly on social media after his wife urged him to post his informative content.

When asked how he learned to coach men, he explained that he studied secular writings on psychology and applied them to the Bible to see if they fit biblical standards. He also had a natural gift for coaching.

During our interview, he spoke about identity, communication, and relationship roles. He provided insightful information for homeschooling families, specifically homeschooling fathers and sons.

  • Build a grounded identity.
  • Set the culture of your home.
  • Love your family members.
  • Grow in emotional intelligence.
  • Steward your body.

A Firm Foundation

First off, build a grounded identity. Mr. Carstairs encourages men to build their identity in God, rather than their roles in life. He explained that we often label ourselves by our jobs or our status, but we should rather build our identities in God. He encourages men to demonstrate this lifestyle in the home.

Next, set the culture of your home. Demonstrate ethical character traits and show that you love your family. Lead well and offer grace when you or others in your family make mistakes. Cultivate a safe and stable environment at home. Mr. Carstairs suggests creating order by submitting to God.

Also, love your family members. Communicate with kindness, and when talking to your wife, use physical touch and eye contact. Listen and work on responding with wisdom. Work on understanding others around you. Remember that women are wired differently from men. Understand that their responses will differ from men’s responses.

Grow in emotional intelligence. Learn about your emotions and work on your emotional responses. Journal or pray to help you process. Be transparent with your wife about your emotions and teach your sons to communicate well. Even read about emotional intelligence.

Finally, steward your body. Eat healthy and exercise. Encourage your family to do the same. Set daily goals and make time to exercise. Also, include rest days and time to unwind. This shows your children that you live a balanced life. Build consistency into your lifestyle and home.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Mr. Carstairs provided motivating advice for homeschooling dads and their sons. This advice can help men throughout their lives and continue to inspire them as they live. Over and over again, Mr. Carstairs referenced building a foundation and being consistent. Take time to dwell on how you can do this within your family unit. You’ve got this, men!
