4 Tips from a Former Homeschooler

Mar 18, 2026

Recently, David and I interviewed Hannah Knecht, a Nxt Era tutor. She is also a homeschool graduate and a tutor who partnered with Nxt Era for this interview. She is a certified PreK-8 educator and obtained her master’s degree in curriculum development. She manages her own business, Learning Connections, along with tutoring support, and provides educational content on YouTube. Ms. Knecht also hosts a podcast with her friend, Nate Key, called Key Connections for Educators. She is currently seeking new clients!

Throughout the interview, Ms. Knecht supplied many insightful comments on creating a well-rounded homeschool experience for your children. Let’s dive right in!

  • Enroll your homeschooler in socially fun activities.
  • Let them ask questions and develop curiosity.
  • Tap into your child’s interests.
  • Use Ms. Knecht’s resources.

An Exceptional Education…

First of all, enroll your homeschooler in socially fun activities. Focus on what they like and find opportunities for them to engage in their interests and connect with others. For some homeschoolers, this could be music lessons or a book club. Others might enjoy joining a hockey team or a baking class. Remember to not view the world as “the other” or “the enemy.” Implore your child to engage with others and avoid becoming cloistered.

Next, let your homeschooler converse with you and ask questions. This cultivates both critical thinking and curiosity. Encourage the Why game, recommended by Ivan Palomino in a past interview. Homeschoolers should ask “Why” questions. Also, explore unit studies in your homeschooler’s interests. This helps them claim their educational journey as their own and find individuality in their unique traits.

Continuing along this same topic, tap into your child’s interests. Again, use unit studies to find their interests and unique capabilities. Ask your child thoughtful and intentional questions to discover what they enjoy. When they are old enough, enroll them in a community college. This can help them gain a foothold in their interests and also build confidence. For Ms. Knecht, her studies at community college built her confidence and calibrated her knowledge.

Finally, use Ms. Knecht’s resources. She offers a course called Money Matters Club / Finance 101 for Kids as financial literacy programming for students. Her YouTube videos also offer excellent resources for families. You can connect with her on her podcast, Key Connections for Educators. All in all, Ms. Knecht offers superb tutoring and resources for homeschooling families.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Ms. Knecht showed her passion for young learners throughout the interview. Her insights on both tutoring and homeschooling offer wonderful opportunities for homeschooling families to climb higher and reach great goals. Ms. Knecht is a reminder that homeschooling parents can outsource and offer their children an exceptional education!
