4 Tips for Earning College Credit as a Homeschooler

Within the last week, David and I sat down with Jennifer Cook-DeRosa, the founder of HS4CC. HS4CC stands for Homeschooling for College Credit. We had a great conversation with Ms. Cook-DeRosa. HS4CC operates as a homeschool support and coaching nonprofit. At HS4CC, staff help families figure out how to earn college credit and navigate the high school years. 

• Know your options and look toward the end goal.
• Individualize the high school education and access HS4CC Facebook groups. 
• Support your homeschooler. 

Focus on the End

First of all, know your options. Do your research. Ask questions. Discover how to earn college credit with the help of HS4CC. If you feel dismayed or worried, look toward the end goal. Focus on graduation and preparing your homeschooler for adult life. This will keep you moving forward.

Next, individualize the high school education to your homeschooler. What do they want to do after graduation? Tailor it to that. If they don’t know their path after high school, use this time to help them figure it out. For more information and support, access the HS4CC Facebook groups. Each state has its own group. 

Finally, support your homeschooler in their high school journey. If they want to take college courses, support them in that. Taking college courses in high school will prepare them after graduation and give them confidence. If they want to focus on working in a trade or starting their own business, support them in that. Your support and care will mean more than anything else as they transition into adulthood!

In conclusion, learn about how to earn college credit in high school. Support your homeschooler on their chosen path or in their search for it. Supporting them now will build confidence and love in your relationship. Remember to ask questions, seek HS4CC’s help, and focus on the end.
