4 Steps to Unleash Free Learning in Your Life

Nov 19, 2025

You see the world around you. Things continue to shift. People work, enslaved to the corporate system. Children work, enslaved to the school system. In our recent interview with Pat Farenga, he referred to the school system as a social control mechanism. Where do we find free, life-giving learning in this dormant, chained modern society? We need to create free learning for ourselves and our children. If you’re a homeschool parent or a potential homeschool parent, please keep reading for helpful tips from Nxt Era.

To embrace free learning as a homeschooling parent, here are four tips:

  • Learn.
  • Experience.
  • Unlock.
  • Stand.

Model the Way

If you love learning, you may feel broken by the system that we live in today. I adore learning, and sometimes I feel like I’m on an island. It seems as if people mainly function just to work or go to school. How do we foster a proper love of learning outside of work and school? If we want to teach our children how to love learning outside of school time, we need to model this behavior.

Personally, I watched my grandma enjoy reading from a young age. My grandpa loved history, and my dad heavily researched gardening. My mom followed politics and deep dived into biblical topics. Because I was surrounded by avid learners and people who took me on exciting field trips to historical sites or museums, I loved learning from a young age.

If you want to teach your child how to love learning, you need to model this behavior. Modeling this behavior is relatively straightforward, so please keep reading.

Four Steps to Love Learning

Pat Farenga explained that our school system limits children. Children do not experience well-rounded events or habits because of becoming slaves to homework and structured learning. Frankly, he said that school is the place where children learn to be stupid. So how do we unlearn our society’s structure?

Simply, we can embrace freedom by following the four steps:

Learn =  Learn about everything and everything. Study books and topics. Read fiction and nonfiction. Listen to podcasts. Try new hobbies like joining a choir or playing pickleball. Most importantly, involve your child in this process. Encourage them to learn new things. Set aside time to read. Listen to podcasts together (as long as they are age-appropriate).

Experience = Attend concerts, art shows, and museums. Try horseback riding lessons or surfing. Go to new places and travel. If you can’t afford to travel to England or Brazil, take simple day trips to new areas. Take your children along on these adventures! Pat Farenga also recommends finding friends for your children because they will learn socially by being with others. You can do this too as you form new bonds in your new activities. Experience new things as a family unit to have fun and build memories.

Unlock = As you learn these new things, you will learn. You will learn about yourself and your children. You will learn about your interests and their interests. You will discover new values and ideas that warm your heart. You will unlock growth in your mind as well.

Stand = Your new habits will help unlock your mind and character. Stand firm when others judge you for trying new things and teaching your children through these methods. The methods of unschooling are not well-liked by many, so if you choose these practices, remain steadfast in your choices to grow and honor your family. Life learns us, so get ready to learn and experience many things with your children!

Conclusion

In a world of dismal to-do lists and constant pressure, don’t be afraid to learn. If you don’t want to learn and experience new ways of thinking, your children won’t either. Get out there and grow. Learn, experience, unlock, and stand. At Nxt Era, we believe in you, and we want to see you learn. We congratulate you after reading this blog post. You just learned something new!
