4 Steps for Renewal in a Time of Chaos

Apr 10, 2026

We are at war with Iran. The Epstein files information floods the news. Chaos threatens as we watch disturbing headlines. Teachers are caught abusing students. Literacy rates are failing. Social media and technology are rewiring our children’s brains. What can we do? All of this constant stream of information can feel overwhelming. It can cause inner chaos and unrest.

How can we handle this as parents? Where is our hope?

  • Focus on what you can control.
  • Connect with your family and renew yourselves together.
  • Unwind with your favorite hobbies.
  • Dwell on the American dream.

Time for Renewal

Lately, life seems overwhelming. Darkness seems to shift all around us. People are angry, broken, and bitter. The headlines cause fear and rage. How can we protect our children from the harsh realities of life?

First and foremost, focus on what you can control. If you can pull your kids out of school, do it. If you already homeschool, focus on your daily activities and lessons. Focus on your family’s needs and take a social media break if you need that. Cut back on daily stressors, such as too many activities or tasks. Take a step back and focus on your family. It is hard to turn your brain off from the chaos around us, but try your best.

Next, connect with your family. Plan outings or fun activities, so you can build generational growth and memories. Heal and renew together. Work on emotional problems and talk about big feelings, like fear, hate, anger, sadness, and despair, with your kids. Show your kids how you emotionally regulate by journaling, exercising, or spending time outside.

In addition, unwind with your favorite hobbies. We all need a bit of alone time to reset. Homeschool parents especially need this since they spend all day with their kids. You need time to recharge, so you can be there for your kids. What hobbies do you like? Set aside time each day or week to focus on your hobby. You can set the time and design for the activity. This time to unwind will help to calm you down and focus on the present moment.

Lastly, think about the American dream. Think about our forefathers and our countrymen and women who died for our great nation. Think about the people who fought for our freedoms. There is hope because there is always a remnant. There are always people who want justice and righteousness to prevail.

This moment isn’t the end of our story.
