4 Practices to Refresh Yourself as a Homeschool Parent
Mar 25, 2026Do you feel run down and exhausted? Are you worn out and weary from homeschooling every day? Does your schedule feel too packed? Maybe you’re just tired of feeling burned out. Those are all valid feelings. Whether you homeschool or not, we can all feel those feelings in our lives. We can all feel burdened or just plain tired. So, as homeschooling parents, what can we do to restart and refresh our lives?
- Journal your feelings.
- Get outside.
- Take time off from school.
- Find an activity that will revitalize your whole family.
Reset and Refresh
Journal your feelings. Whether you’re a mom or a dad, this will help with emotional regulation, specifically processing your emotions. It will help you stay in the present moment and come to grips with what you feel. It’s a great release for pent-up emotions, such as sadness or frustration. Also, be sure to include positive statements for yourself. Examples can include: “I can handle this. I am strong. I will heal. Better days will come.”
Next, get outside. Nothing refreshes the mind and body like being outside in nature. Breathe in that fresh air and enjoy the sounds around you. You can use this practice during your alone time or with your kids. That choice belongs to you.
If needed, take time off from school. Give yourself and your kiddos a break. Sometimes you might just need a break to reset and recharge. Put the book work away for a bit and just enjoy a little vacation from school. You can stay close to home and enjoy fun activities, such as reading, baking, walking, or exploring your local neighborhood. However, you can also take a trip and see somewhere new. You can take this trip with your spouse or with the whole family. Again, that choice is yours.
Finally, find an activity that will revitalize your whole family. What do your kids enjoy? What do you enjoy? Figure out an activity that you can all do together and one that will bring you joy. Maybe you enjoy hiking or exploring the woods. Maybe you all would love a museum day. Maybe you would all like to go to a theme park. Whatever the case, enjoy an activity that will refresh everyone in your family unit.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it’s okay to need to reset yourself. It’s okay if you and your kids are burned out. These steps can help you reset and recharge yourself. Sometimes, life hits us, and we need time to regroup. That’s okay. Offer yourself grace and take time to heal. If you need to take time off from school to do something fun, that’s okay too!
