4 Practices to Preserve Your Child’s Innocence

Mar 13, 2026

Recently, I wrote about preserving our children’s innocence in our Facebook group, Limitless Homeschooling. I think this topic is very important, especially because our kids grow too quickly these days. Kids can access alarming headlines. They can undergo serious bullying or s*xual abuse at school. In addition, the school atmosphere forces them into a box…one where playtime and creativity aren’t encouraged.

To combat this issue, you have several options as a parent. In this blog post, I want to discuss four steps to your child’s innocence.

  • Homeschool your child.
  • Set screen-time boundaries.
  • Encourage playtime.
  • Foster creative pursuits.

Preserve that Mind

First off, homeschool your child. Get them “outta” that toxic homeschool environment. I’ve seen examples online of how homeschoolers get their spark back when they shift to learning at home. You can bring their spark back by bringing them home and educating them yourself. And at Nxt Era, we’re here to help you every step of the way.

Next, set screen-time boundaries. You and your family can decide these rules. Do you want to allow phones at the dinner table? Do you want to set an hour limit for phone usage? Will you put away phones one hour before bedtime? Do you want to put safety features on your child’s device? Discuss screen-time rules with your family and figure out your specific boundaries. I don’t suggest controlling your child’s device, but set boundaries that you also partake in as the parent.

Continuing, encourage play time. Let your kids be kids! Encourage them to play outside and let them use their imagination. You can even play with them. Have a swash-buckling sword fight or give Barbie a makeover. These are fun ways for your homeschoolers to keep their innocence and enjoy their age level.

Finally, foster creative pursuits in your child. This habit can have a major impact on your child’s mind as a whole, but it can also foster age-appropriate behaviors, such as imaginative play, curiosity, and wonderment. For example, your child can read a fun fantasy novel or draw a picture. This engages their senses and their mind for creative purposes.

Conclusion

In conclusion, these four practices can help you encourage your child’s innocence. At a young age, childlike joy and naivety about the world can help them shift into a well-rounded adult. These habits of wonderment, screen-time boundaries, and creativity can follow them into their adult lives. As you protect your child’s mind, remember that we’re always here to support you at Nxt Era.
