4 Practices to Become a Grateful Homeschool Parent

Dec 10, 2025

As we approach winter and darker days, homeschooling can start to feel like a drag. Maybe you struggle with seasonal depression, and homeschooling feels absolutely exhausting this time of year. Maybe you’re simply burned out and ready for a break. Well, I have four tips today to help you practice gratitude on your homeschooling journey.

  • Look towards your child’s future.
  • Think about educational freedom.
  • Take note of your family bonds.
  • Get outside.

Recharge and Reset

First off, it always helps to inspire yourself by envisioning success. If you picture working hard and seeing your child succeed in their future, this can help push you forward. It can motivate you through the slog of dreary days and endless math problems.

Think of your mission and your “why” for homeschooling. You chose this path because you want something different for your child. Dwell on that, take a recharging breath, and keep going. This process can help you practice gratitude as you homeschool on the hard days.

Next, think about the educational freedom that we have in America. Our forefathers fought for this and so many other historical figures. People died for our rights, and one of these rights includes educational choice/freedom.

Therefore, remember our forefathers and those who died for our country. Also, if your kids feel ungrateful about homeschooling, have an open chat about the sacrifices of historical figures and our servicemen and women. Remind them that other countries do not have the freedoms that we do in America.

Practice paying attention to your family development. Have you become closer? Have you created memories? Do you love each other more and seem more like a close-knit family? Dwell on your family improvements and how grateful you are for the cherished moments in your home.

Finally, if you’re feeling down and sluggish when homeschooling, get outside! This will reset your mindset and give you clarity. Every time I get outside, I feel more creative and refreshed. So, get your kiddos outside. Go sledding in the winter months. Go for a walk. Play tag. Just let loose and have fun outside to recharge your mind.

This will also help you feel happier and will help you feel more grateful. You can take in the outside world and contemplate on your homeschooling journey with gratefulness.

Conclusion

In conclusion, use these steps to recharge and motivate yourself. It’s normal to feel downcast and a bit blue in the winter, so practice these tips to help you and your family.

Remember to look towards your child’s future, think about educational freedom, take note of your family bonds, and get outside. Utilizing these four methods will help you practice mindfulness during long days.
