4 Losses of Homeschooling
Jul 06, 2026Many parents are considering homeschooling. More now than ever. As we enter the middle of summer, now is the perfect time to make your decision before school starts in the fall. Some parents may feel conflicted or struggle to make the choice. It feels like a big decision and can often feel overwhelming. You may worry if you will be able to teach your child. You may stress about what others will say. You may need to have financial discussions with your spouse. All of these things can culminate and become a weight. So, let’s take a moment. Let’s look at what your homeschooler will lose if you homeschool them.
- They won’t experience peer pressure.
- They won’t experience grade stress.
- They won’t lose their innocence at a young age.
- They won’t be exposed to agendas.
Wait, is that a win?
First of all, your child won’t experience peer pressure if you choose to homeschool them. Sure, they may experience small examples of peer pressure in a homeschool group or on social media. However, they won't find themselves subjected to constant age segregation coupled with intense peer pressure for 7+ hours a day.
Next, your child won’t experience grade stress if you homeschool them. They can learn at their own pace. You don’t have to assign letter grades or scores. You can let them learn at an unrushed pace where they can flourish as young learners. This learning style can defeat insecurity and perfectionism!
Continuing, your child won’t lose their innocence at a young age. From bullying, sexual abuse, and violence, public schoolers are subjected to harmful situations and ideology from a young age. They lose their innocence quickly. Your homeschooler can find safety and security in your home. If you pull them out of school, you can repair their innocence.
Finally, your child won’t be exposed to public school agendas. They will be exposed to your values and thoughts. You can have open discussions about your values and allow them to experience the real world. This will broaden their perspective and help them connect with you.
Conclusion
These losses seem more like wins to me. What do you think? Take them to dwell on these losses and think about them as you go through this week. Do you want to protect your child by homeschooling? Do you want them to feel safe at home and be able to learn freely? Think about these things today. Let them saturate in your mind. Are these losses actually gains?
