3 Tips to Prepare Your Homeschooler for the Digital Future

Mar 11, 2026

Have you wondered how to prepare your children for the digital age and the continued future of AI? How can you prepare them for their lives ahead and create unique individuals who will prosper in life? Well, recently, I interviewed Ivan Palomino. Mr. Palomino is a communications and work culture expert. In addition, he is a Learning Strategist and Behavioral Designer. He helps organizations develop good work cultures. He hosts his own podcast called Growth Hacking Culture. He is also a father to two children.

  • Play the Why game and ask good questions.
  • Set tech boundaries.
  • Focus on happiness and passions, not grades.

Communication Skills and Critical Thinking 101

First, play the Why Game and ask good questions. This game can help create self-awareness and critical thinking in your homeschooler. Also, they will learn to engage with others. They will also learn how to focus on the other person in the communication scenario. In addition, you can play this game together or encourage them to solve questions on their own. Perhaps they want to know more about the deep sea. You could encourage them to write down their Why questions and then use books to discover their answers.

Second, set a no-device zone in your household. When you chat with your child, put all devices away and solely focus on them. This is great behavior to model for your children, especially when they are young, because it shows them the importance of intentional communication. Also, have open conversations about online content and tech addictions. Set tech boundaries and discuss setting a no-device zone with your kiddos. Encourage your children to build offline connections with other people. This can look like talking to a neighbor, meeting someone new at the park, or chatting with a librarian.

Finally, encourage your child in their own unique interests. Motivate them to discover what they like. Ask questions and learn where their interest lies. Remind them that they are unique and can be different. Explain to them that their worth doesn’t come from their grades. This creates a well-rounded individual who can seek out their own interests and pause for self-reflection.

Conclusion

In conclusion, these steps build a homeschooler who is ready for the digital world. These tools build critical thinking, effective communication, empathy, understanding, and perspective-taking. All are extremely important, especially now. Take time to have open conversations with your kids about these skills. Discover ways to work on them as a family unit. Start today and build these microhabits for the days to come!
