3 Steps to Avoid Sheltering Your Child

Many people believe families homeschool to shelter and control their children. At NxtEraEdu, we know differently. Our families homeschooled us to bring us closer together and give us a life-changing educational experience. Our parents’ choice was never about control. It was about love. 

Let’s say you want to homeschool but avoid sheltering your child. How can you do this? We have some suggestions for you. 

• Read to your child. 
• Give them guidance and room to solve problems. 
• Take them out into the world.

First, read to your child. Read books on all types of topics and engage in literary discussions. Read stories about people who lived hard lives and walked through hard things. Next, give your child guidance and advice, especially when they’re young. However, leave room for solving problems and making decisions on their own. This will help them transition into adulthood. They will learn through failures and successes. 

Lastly, take your child out into the world. Let learning happen in the real world. Encourage your child to learn from different situations and experiences. On a personal note, my parents encouraged me to interact with all types of people. This grew my perspective on life! It also cultivated my communication skills.
