2 Ways to Create a Strong Homeschool Environment

Dec 08, 2025

Do you ever wonder if this homeschooling thing will really prepare your child for adulthood? Maybe family members or friends question your ability to teach. Maybe you battle internal thoughts about whether or not you are equipped to raise children and be their full-time educator. Well, David and I recently spoke with Davis Carman, President of Apologia. He shared two things that I want to share with you today. He talked about the two following concepts:

  • Walk in faith.
  • Teach a love of learning.

Walk in Faith: The Breakdown

These two tips may seem daunting. However, you can do this. I know because my mom did it. I’ve watched other moms do the same thing.

First of all, you need faith to homeschool. Whether you subscribe to Christianity or not, you can still have faith in your choice, your values, and your passion for homeschooling.

I do believe that my mom’s faith in Christ Jesus helped her homeschool and helped her succeed in walking forward as my primary educator. Jesus was the source of her decision and strength.

However, a big part of the faith comes from standing firm in your choice to homeschool. So, think of why you chose to homeschool and stand on that solid decision. Look at your kids and think about their educational freedom. Think about the freedom of homeschooling when the days get long and hard.

Teach of a Love of Learning: The Breakdown

Unlike the first tip, this tip involves outward action. Faith requires more inward action or a certain mindset. Teaching a love of learning comes from practice, repetition, and committed actions.

If you want your child to like reading, read A LOT and pick books they will enjoy. If you want them to like math, practice math equations and methods over and over again. Try curricula that are both fun and engaging.

Also, take your homeschoolers outside or on field trips to show learning doesn’t just happen behind textbooks. I learned many things when we traveled or took field trips. I learned things that I still remember today.

Therefore, let your child experience book learning, but also let them learn from extracurricular activities or field trips. This teaches a true, well-rounded love of learning.

Conclusion

In conclusion, take these two steps and dwell on them. How can you apply them? How can you walk in faith? How can you teach your child a love of learning that works best for them? Think about these questions as you move forward. We believe in you, and as always, if you need help, please reach out. We want to see you homeschool in faith and watch as your child develops a love of learning. Remember, you’re teaching the nxt era!
