2 Rules for Every Homeschool Family
Apr 17, 2026Have you ever wondered how to develop tenacity as a homeschool parent? It can feel so challenging when family members disrespect your choice to homeschool. Some days, it might feel hard to prioritize your own needs or push through a homeschool lesson.
Recently, David and I sat down with Arielle Loewen, who is a Christian, homeschool mom, and 5x CrossFit Games athlete. During the interview, she shared advice from her Christian faith and encouragement on how she achieves a long-lasting, healthy life. Ms. Loewen was homeschooled. Now, Ms. Loewen homeschools her daughter using The Good and the Beautiful curriculum.
Ms. Loewen supported homeschooling families with her words and provided life-giving advice for parents.
- Stick to your boundaries.
- Remain steadfast.
Get Your Head in the Game
Firstly, stick to your boundaries. Discuss your boundaries as a family. How do you want to protect your family’s values and peace? How can you effectively do this? Safeguard your family rules and don’t let others cross those boundaries.
If someone tries to cross your boundaries, you can communicate with love and kindness, but still protect your family. For example, if someone questions your decision to homeschool, you can say: “We chose to homeschool because it is the right decision for us.” You can shape your tone to communicate this with firmness and love.
Secondly, remain steadfast in your decision and faith. If you believe in God, remember that someday we will be with Him in eternity. What hope! Also, center yourself in your WHY for homeschooling. Why did you choose to homeschool? Center yourself in your answer and reasoning. Shift your mindset. Ms. Loewen recommends saying, “I work hard in the darkness, so I can shine in the light.” This phrase can push you through hard days and tasks.
Finally, practice gratitude. Say, “I get to do this.” This mindset shift has personally really helped me! Learn from your failures and power through life’s tests. Clearly, this is easier said than done. Give yourself grace as you navigate life’s trials. If I’ve learned anything from our interviews, it’s that life throws us challenges, but we can always learn from them.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Ms. Loewen’s support and advice can cause us to armor up! It can encourage and motivate us to work hard as homeschooling families. It can propel us to set boundaries and protect our family’s peace. Focus on your why for life and the prize at the end of the race.
