Delegate Like a CEO: The Homeschool Parent’s Guide to Sanity & Success
Reality check: You’re not just a parent. You’re the CEO of your home. Your homeschool journey will only thrive if everyone knows their role, takes ownership, and works together—just like in business or sports.

Reality check: You’re not just a parent. You’re the CEO of your home. Your homeschool journey will only thrive if everyone knows their role, takes ownership, and works together—just like in business or sports.

Homeschool families are home eight more hours than most others. That means more dishes. More mess. More everything.

If you don’t start delegating—fast—you’re going to burn out.

Let’s change that.

STEP 1: Why Delegation Matters

Ask yourself:

  • • Are you doing more than you need to?

  • • Could your child learn a life skill from helping out?

  • • Is your spouse clear on what’s expected of them

Ask yourself:

  • • Are you doing more than you need to?

  • • Could your child learn a life skill from helping out?

  • • Is your spouse clear on what’s expected of them

Start with small tasks:

  • • Dishes

  • • Laundry

  • • Sweeping

  • • Making the bed

  • • Taking out the trash

  • • Cleaning their space

  • • Helping prep meals

  • • Organizing supplies

Then level up for older kids:

  • • Mow the yard

  • • Grocery runs

  • • Cook full meals

  • • Teach a younger sibling

  • • Handle pool or pet care

ACTION:
Write down 3 tasks your kids could take on this week. Assign. Track. Hold accountable.

You can’t lead in two different directions.

Checklist:

  • • Do we agree on who handles what?

  • • Are roles clearly assigned (even if flexible)?

  • • Do we have a way to track what gets done?

  • • Do we have rewards/consequences in place?

  • • Are we celebrating small wins?

This is your household. Treat it like a team. Make the mission clear. Then lead it together.

Your kids want structure. Even if they don’t act like it.

Try this:

  • • Hold a family meeting

  • • Explain why every role matters

  • • Let them choose (or rotate) responsibilities

  • • Be crystal clear on what “done right” looks like

Example: Taking out the trash means…

  • • Notice when it’s full

  • • Never overfill it

  • • Replace the bag

  • • Clean the area if needed

  • • Do it without being told more than 3 times a month

Now flip it: Have them repeat the rules back to you. Word for word.

  • • If you say there are consequences—follow through

  • • If someone steps up—celebrate it

  • • If your spouse is crushing it—say something

  • • This is your team. Show love like a leader.
